JOB DESCRIPTION

This position will provide victim services for our Shalimar, Florida office.
The purpose of the Victim Advocate position is to provide direct support to victims of crime through each stage of the Criminal and Juvenile Justice System.
Victim Advocates act as a liaison between the Assistant State Attorney and the victims/witnesses involved in the criminal cases prosecuted by the Office of the State Attorney.
The Victim Advocate makes initial contact with victims of violent crimes to interview and assist them in completing appropriate sworn statements or affidavits consistent with office policy.
This position is required to maintain and document ongoing contact with victims/witnesses and keep them informed of their right to attend each crucial stage of the court hearing.
The Victim Advocate acts as the primary emotional support for victims and witnesses and provides guidance to them during the criminal justice process.
The Victim Advocate will assess the needs of victims and witnesses and offer referrals for community resources when appropriate.
This position will also require the employee attend depositions, hold victim office interviews, attend court proceedings, and assist victims with paperwork as necessary.

Minimum Training and Experience Required:
Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college program with major work in the area of social science or criminal justice, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
A background in social work, criminal justice, psychology, and/or related field is preferred.
Training, and/or work experience in the dynamics of victimization, community services and crisis intervention is preferred.

To successfully perform the duties of this position, candidates must have excellent communication skills, and have the ability to work as part of a team and independently in a highly confidential and sensitive environment.
Performance of these duties will require professional interaction with the public, law enforcement and office staff.
The duties of this position will also require the ability to use various confidential computer software, Microsoft WORD, automated calendars and case management software.
Regular and reliable attendance is required.
Physical activities will require sitting and speaking on a repetitive basis and/or for extended periods of time.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
